Description
Emmanuel Defay is the head of the Smart Materials Unit and the head of the Ferroic Materials for transducers group at the Luxembourg Institute of Science and Technology. He is also Affiliate Professor at the University of Luxembourg. His research interests are in materials that can transform one form of energy into another, and, more specifically, those related to electrical energy, such as piezoelectric micro-pumps, haptic actuators, mechanical or thermal energy harvesters, and electrocaloric solid-state coolers. These topics lie between materials science, engineering, and thermodynamics, all of which are required to create the innovation needed to bring these materials into realistic applications. Emmanuel received an ERC Advanced Grant and a Proof of Concept, and an European Innovation Council (EIC) grant as coordinator in 2024.
